Old Santa Fe Trail at Alameda

The corner of Old Santa Fe Trail and Alameda Street. On the other side of the street is the Santa Fe River.

Keep on walking across the street and the next major intersection is with Paseo de Peralta; up there you'll find the Visitor's Center.

The view in this panorama are man-made. The parapets of the roof line create a distant, mountainous look. That feeling is increased via the sculpture of the deer jumping down.

Paseo de Peralta at East Alameda

If you are a visitor to Santa Fe, chances are you'll walk or drive through this intersection many times. Paseo de Peralta forms a small-time beltway around the inner-most part of the city. Alameda runs along the Santa Fe River.

Look left, down East Alameda to the east and the Santa Fe River is on your right. Along it is an informal trail, some picnic benches, and a park near a big curve at the end. Continuing to look left, on the opposite corner one can see the St. Francis Cathedral Elementary School.

Driving Down East Alameda

Over the bridge is the last part of East Palace Avenue, which dead-ends at Canyon Road.

Facing the intersection, heading east (to the right) on Alameda, takes you along the river. If you walk across the street and go down Palace Avenue, you will end up at the Plaza. If you take a right, there is a shady park (Monsignor Patrick Smith Park) with playground equipment and picnic benches.

If you come to Santa Fe via Interstate 25, take the Cerrillos exit and drive north, before too long you end up here at the corner of Galisteo and Alameda. Where do you go next?

View up Gonzales

The turn onto Gonzales is in a small curve and therefore can be easily missed. (Which is why this was photographed.) You can take Gonzales to get to the ski basin, Hyde State Park, a number of high end developments and some hiking trails.

The Santa Fe River is across the street. If you walked in that direction towards Alameda and turned left, a hundred yards or so is a city park, "Monsignor Patrick Smith Park".

Lilacs love our alkaline soil. The lilacs in this view are not the most advanced specimens I've seen, but...any size lilac smells nice. Smiling face. There are some really great lilacs around Santa Fe.
